Trading Assets move towards smoke-free grounds

Wednesday 15 August 2018

From the 1 January 2019, States of Guernsey Trading Assets’ sites will be Smoke-Free in line with a new policy being implemented.

This could see properties such as the airport, the dairy and the court made totally smoke free - that is, if no exemption requests are made.

The policy supports the Guernsey and Alderney Tobacco Control Strategy (2015-2020) which resolved to work towards smoke-free grounds on States properties.

To date, the Prison, Education, Health & Social Care, and Frossard House are already smoke-free.

The Trading Assets Smoke Free policy has been developed over two years by a working group made up of representatives from all Trading Assets business units to "ensure the States of Guernsey provide workplaces that are safe and healthy for all staff, customers, service users and visitors and comply with health and safety and employment laws".

Details of the physical extents of this policy are not yet defined and each Trading Asset is being given the opportunity to submit exemption requests which will be reviewed.

The harbour, for example, have already made their intent to submit various exemption requests for its property known.

Information on the details of the new policy will be made available to for customers, visitors and contractors in due course.
