Charities and not-for-profit groups in need of relatively small amounts of money can now apply for funding from the Bailiwick's Social Investment Fund.
Registered charities or not-for-profit organisations based in Guernsey, Alderney or Sark are invited to apply for grants worth up to £25,000. The money has to be for one-off projects or ongoing expenses such as salaries or running costs.
The Social Investment Fund stipulates that organising applying for these grants must "be focused on people in our Bailiwick community, on the services and support they need, or are of benefit to our community, and demonstrate measurable impact against those applicable outcomes".
The Social Investment Fund was set up as a charitable company in 2020 to direct public and private money into the third sector and to improve the working relationship between the States and the third sector.
The funds available to the Social Investment Fund include the profits from the Channel Islands' Christmas lottery, which used to be distributed by the Association of Guernsey Charities.
The Chairman of the Social Investment Fund, Jurat Stephen Jones OBE, said: “We are pleased to launch another round of small grants funding now that there is a larger pot of charitable funds available from the lottery. With the Christmas lottery draw coming up soon, we hope that the prize will continue to increase so that there will be even more money available.
"The charitable sector supports so many areas of our lives and these small grants together can make a large impact on our community. We encourage charities small and large to apply for funding.”

This is the second time that the Fund has run its small grants programme, having previously distributed £220,000 between 19 organisations. These varied in size from hundreds of pounds up to the capped amount of £25,000. Organisations to benefit included the Cheshire Home, Mencap and Relate Guernsey. Many of the smaller grants supported equipment, development of services or training courses.

Applications for grants in excess of £25,000 can be made to the Fund's major grants programme, which will open again for applications early in 2022.
