Thousands sign up to vote

More than 10,000 people have signed up to vote in next year's States election since the new electoral roll opened at the beginning of the month.

That includes around 4,000 online registrations and 6,000 paper forms which are currently being processed.

With each form able to include up to five people's details, it is expected that the total number will rise to around 13,000 once they've all been put through the system.

"Signing up to the new electoral roll is nice and easy and should take less than five minutes to do," said Lead Election Officer, David Mullins. "I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all islanders to sign up to the electoral roll using the online form available or by using the household registration form."

Those registering will need to be at least 16-years-old by 17 June 2020 to be able to vote in the 2020 island wide election. They should also have been resident in the island for the last two years continuously, or for five years at any time if they have left Guernsey and then returned.

The electoral roll will remain open until 30 April 2020.
