The Bailiwick's athletes are finding out who they'll be competing against in their first rounds at the Commonwealth Games.

The Gold Coast games get underway today with an opening ceremony at the Carrera Stadium involving 71 nations.

Among Team Guernsey's early interests are the boxing, with Alderney's Billy Le Poullain competing in the Men's 69kg against Gul Zaib of Pakistan. The bout at the Oxenford Stadium is due to be held on Thursday 5 April at 13:32 Australia time.

Triathlete Josh Lewis will also compete tomorrow at 13.00 (AEST) which is 04.00 BST. He has been in Australia since March 4 preparing for his event alongside triathletes from Wales and England.

In Badminton, Team Guernsey has events lined up against Jamaica with Chloe Le Tissier due to play Katherine Wynter, while in the women's doubles Le Tissier will partner Elena Johnson when they face Migbodzi and Amasah of Ghana. 

In the Badminton mixed doubles Le Tissier will team up with Stuart Hardy to play Rankireddy and Ponnappa of India with  Johnson and Jordan Trebert facing Yang and Li of Canada in the preliminary rounds. 

The team have been busy acclimatising and preparing for the Games. Guernsey flag bearer Matthew Guille said they are all looking forward to the opening ceremony later today.
