A man who repeatedly exposed himself after a drunken night out in front of up to 20 people at the Weighbridge taxi rank has been sentenced to 50 hours of community service.
Callum Cummins-Wall, 24, pleaded guilty to the charge of disorderly conduct when he appeared before Guernsey's Magistrate Court where he admitted that he had been "blind drunk" after a day out in Sark.
In sentencing the judge said that Cummins-Wall should "grow up."
The court had heard how at around 02:50 on 22 July 2018 Cummins-Wall was seen on CCTV walking from the town taxi rank up St Julians Avenue pushing his trousers to the ground and exposing his penis. As he was in a public place Guernsey Police officers attended the scene and offered him some words of wisdom, advising him to stop this behaviour.
Cummins-Wall continued to walk around and headed to the taxi rank at the Weighbridge where there were more than twenty people. Once again he walked around exposing his penis, with his trousers pushed down to his ankles while lifting his shirt up to ensure he was flashing his private parts. He was again warned by police officers that if he continued to expose himself he would be arrested. He did continue to push his trousers down and walked around exposing himself and therefore he was subsequently arrested.
When he was interviewed in police custody the following day he said he could not remember doing it and then when he was shown the CCTV he said that it was all "banter" and that Guernsey Police were wasting time and money looking into this as he could not see what was wrong with his behaviour.
In his defence the court heard that he'd had a clear police record for three years, having previously had disorderly matters held against him, and that he was sorry for his behaviour as he sees it as "pure stupidity." His advocate stated that Cummins-Wall had drunk more than 15 pints during his day out in Sark and that had affected his judgement.
In sentencing, Judge Graeme McKerrell said that he could give him credit for his guilty plea, but he was not a man of previous good character and he noted his long criminal record for previous bad behaviour. He addressed Cummins-Wall stating that while it may have seemed funny and like "banter" at the time, it was not for the public who had to see this or the officers who had to deal with this.
The judge noted he had dealt with the defendant as a prosecutor and had worried about his behaviour previously. He further addressed Cummins-Wall, "for goodness sake, grow up, you are 24 and should know better than to drink that amount of alcohol."
Cummins-Wall was sentenced to 50 hours community service.
