Summer opening hours for Longue Hougue and Chouet

Friday 06 April 2018

The Longue Hougue Recycling Facility will be making the most of the extra daylight hours as it moves to its summer opening times from this weekend.

From Saturday 7 April, the site will be open from 07:30 to 16:00 Monday to Friday, and 08:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays.

Waste Prevention & Recycling Officer, Ben Henry, said the changeover was timely: "At this time of year we start to think about getting ready for summer. It's often a time when we clear the clutter and have a good spring clean. A lot of the things we may have no more use for, such as old electrical items and large plastic toys, can be taken to Longue Hougue and we might be able to find a new home for them."

The Longue Hougue facility accepts a wide range of items, from electrical equipment and appliances to rubble and old bricks. Items in good condition can be found a new home through charity partner GO and other items will be recycled.

Construction work has begun on the new, purpose built Household Waste Recycling Centre at Longue Hougue. This will replace the current temporary facility, and will feature a concrete base and fully constructed access ways. The new site will open next year, but until then it will be business as usual.

"We will let islanders know when the new site will be opening but for now it is business as usual at the current location," Mr Henry added.

The Chouet green waste site will be open for an additional hour on weekends over the summer. It will now be open from 08:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, Sunday, and bank holidays, and 07:00 to 16:00 on weekdays.

Both the Longue Hougue Recycling Facility and the Chouet Green Waste site are closed on Liberation Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
