STSB to recruit States trading advisers

Sunday 17 March 2019

The States' Trading and Supervisory Board is looking to hire a team of advisers to guide States-owned trading operations.

It is looking for experienced business leaders to join the company boards of different trading assets including Guernsey Water, States Works, Guernsey Dairy and Guernsey Ports.

The advisers will also be considered for future non-executive director roles for the States incorporated trading companies - Guernsey Electricity, Guernsey Post, Aurigny and Jamesco.

The STSB, which was established in 2016, agrees objectives and business plans for all the States' trading assets and currently consists of Deputies Peter Ferbrache, Jeremy Smithies and Jan Kuttelwascher as well as Stuart Falla MBE and John Hollis.

The new business leaders are being sought to join the individual 'company boards' which make up STSB and will serve on a voluntary basis.

"There is a long tradition of islanders from outside the States serving on key States committees," said Deputy Smithies. "They bring a wealth of expertise, often in a relevant professional background, usually acting in a voluntary capacity to serve the community.

"The STSB itself has two non-States Members on the board, bot of whom bring a wealth of experience from a long and successful careers in business. We are now looking to develop that business link further, to add private sector expertise to the individual company boards.

"We think this will appeal to a lot of islanders with significant management experience in the private sector, and want to give something back to the island. It will also give them an opportunity to gain some valuable experience of working in a different commercial environment."

An information evening is being held at the OGH on 4 April for anyone interested in the positions. More information is available at gov.gg.
