Steroid-user given a "second chance"

A man who started using Class C steroids because he was unhappy with his body image has been given a "second chance" by the Magistrate's Court.

Daley Edmonds, 27, was given a three-month suspended sentence, which he will not serve unless he commits any further crimes in the next two years.

Guernsey Police carried out a search at Edmonds' home address on 14 April this year.

In a Co-op bag under the stairs, they found a number of vials and tablets containing testosterone, trenbolone, mesterolone and gabergoline.

"Everything in these bags is mine and only mine," he told the officers.

In Edmonds' mitigation, Advocate David Domaille explained to the court that his client was going through a "particularly upsetting time in his life" and "went back to drugs because of that."

"He wasn't very happy with his body image and that is why he took these," he added. "They were for his own personal use. The only person he's put at risk is himself."

Advocate Domaille noted the defendant's long list of previous convictions - some of which were "very serious" - but said Edmonds was making an effort to "change his life around".

"He has a good work ethic and is working many, many hours per week to keep away from other associates," said the Defence Advocate. "He says he has no friends now as a result.

"He wants to settle down and he wants to be happy. He's asking for a chance today to prove that he's changed."

Judge Graeme McKerrell gave the defendant credit for his early guilty plea, but that was aggravated by his "terrible record".

"You don't deserve a second chance and I never give them, but I'm going to go against the grain on this one," he said. "Don't blow it."

Edmonds was sentenced to a three month suspended prison sentence, which he will have to serve if he commits another crime within the next two years.
