Nearly 1,000 people travelled into the island over the weekend, none of whom have tested positive for covid-19 to date.

Between the Friday 4 and Sunday 6 December, 879 people arrived in the Bailiwick.

The busiest day was Friday, due to additional flights which were put on for students who were returning for Christmas and New Year.

“The teams involved in processing travellers have worked extremely hard over the weekend,” said Programme Director of Travel Tracker, Richard Evans. “To cope with the anticipated spike in travellers coming home for Christmas and New Year.”

81% of these arrivals opted to have the day one Covid-19 test. Those who didn’t include people under the age of 12 and those who couldn’t for medical reasons. All arrivals will need to isolate for the required 14 days regardless.

The statistics gleaned from the day one tests were very reassuring to the Director of Public Health, Dr Nicola Brink.

“The fact that we have not identified any positive results from the 839 tests tells me that travellers from the UK have been complying with the Covid-19 restrictions where they were living.”

The continued success of our test and trace program relies on people following the rules and regulations in place.

“I know it’s difficult, but it’s necessary to ensure we can continue to work and socialise in our Bailiwick Bubble," she said.
