Head south for the first summer show

Friday 09 August 2019

Bonnie babies and fun dogs will be on display at this year's South Show along with all of the agricultural, horticultural, baking and craft exhibitions.

Kicking off the traditional summer season of shows in Guernsey as always, the St Martin's community centre based event spans two days with attractions both inside and outside so the weather won't matter.

The rooms at the Professor Shaw centre, in the centre of St Martin's village, will be open from 13:00 today (Friday 9 August) until 20:00, and again between 10:00 and 18:00 tomorrow (Saturday 10 August).

On display will be parishioners entries from across the south of the island, including St Martins, St Andrews, the Forest and St Peter Port, with exhibitions of cut flowers, potted plants, vegetables, cakes, 'surf & turf' and tomatoes among many others to look at.

The craft section includes crochet, mixed media, lego and 'any other work not scheduled in any other classes' meaning entrants could have let their imagination run wild during the early part of the summer preparing for this weekend's show.

Some of the other attractions which set the South Show aside from the West and North shows are the classes which are open to everyone from across the island, including the popular 'bonny baby' competitions, for children aged up to four years old. They will be judged based on personality from 15:00 today.

There is a decorated hat and wellington boot competition, scheduled for 16:00 on Friday.

On Saturday, dogs take centre stage with the South Fun Dog Show from 15:00. There are eight classes including the 'Best in Show'.
