Six young people arrested after disorder at Cambridge Park

Wednesday 01 June 2022

Police have arrested six juveniles following two incidents of public disorder around Cambridge Park last weekend.

An incident at the skate park led to four arrests. The second, separate incident resulted in two arrests.

Police said yesterday that "officers took the measures which they felt were proportionate" following a recent spate of incidents of public disorder involving young people.

"The behaviour of this group has led to assaults, intimidation and injuries and Police will continue to maintain a robust approach to any such behaviour," they said.

"Guernsey Police is continuing to work with other agencies from across the island to help tackle this issue."

Police have taken various steps to try to get on top of the increase in cases of public disorder involving young people. These include more patrols and cracking down on the availability of alcohol to under-18s.

"[Last] weekend saw a number of large events taking place across the island [but] there were far fewer incidents which required police attendance. This was much better than recent weekends with similar events," said the Police.

"Guernsey Police had additional high visibility patrols operating over both days, focusing on large events which were taking place.

"Officers have also worked with the management of a number of premises selling alcohol - both licensed and off-licensed businesses - and Guernsey Police would like to extend its thanks to them for stepping up their supervision and security. This helped to reduce the amount of alcohol in circulation among people under 18."

Police said yesterday that the number of young people involved in recent incidents was relatively small and again called on parents to take responsibility for their children.

"It is important to continue to stress that these issues are only arising because of a small minority of young people," they said.

"We would also continue to urge parents to take reasonable steps to know where their children are, who they are with and what they are doing and to contact Guernsey Police if they ever feel it necessary.

"If you do have information to report then you can contact Police on 01481 222 222 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
