Serious car accident among dozens of weekend calls for Ambulance

Monday 29 November 2021

The St. John Emergency Ambulance experienced a busy weekend of calls and several off-duty staff had to return to work to deal with the demands on the service.

The Emergency Ambulance was called out 67 times between 08:00 on Friday and 08:00 this morning. There were 19 calls in the 24 hours up to 08:00 on Saturday; 27 calls in the 24 hours to up to 08:00 on Sunday; and 21 calls in the 24 hours up to 08:00 this morning.

Calls included a car crash in Rue du Friquet in the early hours of Saturday which resulted in two people being taken to the Emergency Department at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. Two other people required treatment at the scene for more minor injuries.

The Emergency Ambulance was dispatched to Rue du Friquet at just after midnight after a 999 call reported a single car collision.

The first crew to arrive carried out an assessment of the scene and requested further resources due to the number of potential casualties. A second double-crewed ambulance and an Ambulance Incident Officer then attended and a third ambulance was required shortly after.

Paramedics worked with staff from Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service to remove one of the casualties from the car while other crews treated the other patients.

The Police and Civil Protection volunteers also attended.
