Salty Blonde suspended

Saturday 07 May 2022

Alderney’s States’ subsidised ferry service has been temporarily suspended one month after the Salty Blonde won the contract

The Salty Blonde won the contract to run the service to and from Guernsey for the rest of 2022 at the beginning of April. Two rotations were running per day, six times a week, and the contract runs until 31 December.

However, a mechanical problem with one of the vessel’s engines has grounded the ferry, potentially for several weeks.

Group Director at the Salty Blonde, Tracey Farquhar-Beck, said: “With great sadness, we have to suspend the scheduled ferry service for the next few weeks. We are endeavouring to resolve this as speedily as possible and cannot apologise enough for any disruption caused.

“We are in the process of making contact with all passengers booked.”

The States of Alderney, who subsidise the service, released a joint media release with the Salty Blonde.

“We are in regular contact with the operators of the Salty Blonde ferry service and we are appreciative of their efforts and endeavours to provide alternative means of transport,” said the Chair of Alderney’s Economic Development Committee, Annie Burgess.

“[We] wish to reassure islanders that we are fully supportive of the Salty Blonde management team.”
