Safety comes first with beach side steps

Thursday 04 October 2018

The wooden steps which disappeared at Pembroke have been replaced, but in a new location to make it easier and safer for people to use them.

Their new location, nearer the Beach House cafe, was planned so anyone needing to use the Public Access Defibrilator which is kept at the cafe, can reach it more safely in a hurry.

The steps are also closer to the car park at the eastern side of the Beach House meaning anyone parking there will be able to get on to the beach quicker and more easily in future.

Although the summer feels like a distant memory, the beach is busy in the colder months, especially now dogs are allowed back on the beach, so work is starting immediately and should take around two weeks to complete, giving access for anyone who wants to use them.

After a dispute over who actually owned the previous wooden steps, which were removed after being damaged during stormy weather, the new steps are being paid for out of States capital funds. They'll cost us no more than £13,500.

The new steps will also be concrete, not wooden, so should last longer than their predecessors.
