SACC provides update on States electronic voting system

Friday 20 May 2022

The implementation of a simultaneous electronic voting system for the States Assembly is progressing well, with the technology expected to be fully launched for the States meeting on 13 July.

The States Assembly and Constitution Committee (SACC) said yesterday (19 May) that a soft launch of the voting system is hoped to take place on 28 June, the same day a debate on the Government Work Plan is expected to be moved to.

A drop-in session for deputies is being held today by Deputy Liam McKenna, a member of SACC, to explain the new technology to members, prevent future issues with personal devices, and to allow for questions.

Deputy Carl Meerveld, President of SACC, suggested hosting the soft launch during the lunch break of that meeting to “avoid only a percentage [of deputies] turning up”.

He also said, “we might want to have a media session to demonstrate the system in action”.

It is hoped that there will be a smooth transition to the new system by introducing politicians gradually with training, and for them to use the system in their working environment.

This is also to ensure public confidence in the new way of voting on legislation at States meetings.
