Royal honours await "outstanding" local charities

Tuesday 07 September 2021

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is accepting nominations of local charities for the 2022 Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year awards.

30 charities in the Bailiwick have received the award since it was first presented in 2003, which is the equivalent to an MBE for charitable organisations.

Guernsey’s Lieutenant-Governor Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder said: “As we approach the Platinum Jubilee year, it’s worth recalling that The Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service was launched to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen.

“It’s the highest award for volunteer-led organisations, which not only recognises excellence but also promotes the very best working practices across the third sector. It’s fair to say that this really is the gold standard of volunteering.”

All nominations for The Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service can be made directly by the public, and any group of three or more people doing volunteer work can be nominated.

The group must have been running for at least three years and have the majority of participants being volunteers.

More than half of the people involved in the group must have the right to live in either the UK or one of the Crown Dependencies.

Nominations for the 2022 awards will be open until Wednesday 15 September.

The Awards are published each year on 2 June, the anniversary of Her Majesty’s coronation, which next year coincides with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
