Road rules changes for Christmas Lights

Sunday 27 November 2022

In a change from the norm some motorists will be able to drive through central St Peter Port over the next few weeks.

Pensioners, anyone with reduced or limited mobility, or those who otherwise can't see the Christmas lights in Town will be allowed to drive, or be driven, through the Pollet, the High Street and up and down Smith Street at select times between now and the New Year.

Motorists carrying passengers of pensionable age, motorists holding a valid disabled person’s badge or those carrying a passenger who holds a disabled person’s badge will also be able to drive through town to see the lights.

The lights were switched on for the first time this year yesterday, with Father Christmas coming to town especially to turn them on.

They'll be on until January giving ample opportunities for people to see them.

Those who can't walk through town are able to instead drive, or be driven on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings between 18:00 and 22:00 from today until 1 January.

Drivers can travel in either direction along Smith Street, but they can only travel in the direction of the Town Church when driving through Le Pollet or the High Street.

All of those roads are subject to a 12mph speed limit.
