The brief for the artist was to 'define the spaces, create conversation points and encourage patients to move around the ward'.

He was given a theme of bringing the outdoors indoors, to help patients connect to nature by using the landscape of Guernsey including 'typically recognisable Island locations'.

The new-look ward was unveiled during the week to much acclaim, with plans to add more features to it.

So far, the dining area has been converted into the Crab Pot Café, and the corridors to the bedrooms are now walkways through the landscape of Guernsey.

There is also a reminiscence lounge which was created by ward staff, working with Lottie Barnes, HSC’s Culture, Arts and Health Manager.

The next stage of this development will be the creation of memory boxes around the themes in the artwork. The ward also aims to fundraise for a sound system to play sounds of the sea and nature to accompany the walk through the artwork in the corridors.

This project was funded by donations and staff fundraising.
