While ESC can't give a break down of how many local or off-island candidates have applied for either role for confidentiality purposes, they have released to Express the statistics detailing how many people applied, and through what channels. 

The Director of Education post is the most senior education role in the island, with the successful applicant going on to act as advisor to the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture along with a number of other statutory duties.

The role was advertised using the channels ESC has previously used for gathering applicants for education posts, with 679 people clicking through to 'Success Factors' which is the States own recruitment platform. 

Of those who clicked through to Success Factors, a handful went on to apply, with interviews now being planned to recruit the next Director of Education, to replace Andrew Warren who stands down at the end of April.

He is on a fixed term contract and confirmed his intention to stand down next month earlier this year, leading ESC to start advertising in earnest for his successor, who they want to appoint during the current school term.

Deputy Matt Fallaize, President of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture, said:

We are fortunate to have secured a range of candidates with strong records of leadership across the various phases of education. We are now looking forward to meeting the candidates who have been shortlisted."

The application period also recently closed for the position of Executive Principal of The Guernsey Institute, which is the newly merged organisation encompassing the States' three providers of further and higher education: the College of Further Education, Institute of Health & Social Care Studies and GTA University Centre.

The role of Executive Principal of the Guernsey Institute is a new role, and ESC has said they are encouraged by the response to the initial adverts which were placed on Facebook, LinkedIn, the Times Educational Supplement and Guardian Jobs. 

Deputy Fallaize said:

“We did not know what to expect because obviously this is the first time we have recruited an Executive Principal of the new Guernsey Institute. The response has been very encouraging and there are several applicants with many years’ experiencein leadership roles in education. We are confident we will be able to make a strong appointment well in advance of the formation of The Guernsey Institute on 1 July.”
