Raising funds to light up Town this Christmas

The St Peter Port Christmas Lights Charity is working with Guernsey Post again this year to raise funds to keep the Christmas lights bright in Town.

The charity needs to raise £32,000 this year to cover the cost of putting the lights up and taking them back down.

Chair Jax Robin said the charity had received a "generous anonymous donation" during lockdown which they were "incredibly grateful for".

"This has funded some much-needed maintenance on some of the electrical wiring and new lights to replace all the ones damaged by the extreme bad weather, meaning we can focus on raising the remaining funds in time for the Christmas Lights switch on Saturday 28 November.”

These efforts are being assisted, as they traditionally have, by Guernsey Post, who are delivering donation envelopes to residents and businesses.

“We have seen through recent events how strong the Guernsey community spirit is," said Dawn Gallienne, Head of Corporate Engagement at Guernsey Post. "This year more than ever we will need the Christmas lights to shine brightly in St Peter Port.”

Mrs Robin added: “The Christmas Lights create lovely atmosphere and bring people into town to shop during the festive season. This is a great opportunity to see more of the Guernsey Together spirit and to support local businesses as part of the States’ Revive and Thrive plan."
