The third annual Purple Tuesday will be held next week, encouraging organisations of all sizes to improve their customer experience for disabled islanders.
The day will begin with a breakfast event at the Digital Greenhouse, where a number of speakers will explore the challenges faced by disabled members of the community and what changes businesses can make to meet to better their experiences.
In Guernsey, the 'Purple Pound' - the spending power of disabled people and their families - is estimated to be £274 million, and rising by 14% per year. Despite this, less than 10% of businesses in the island have a targeted plan to be more accessible.
Purple Tuesday aims to improve local awareness of the value and needs of disabled customers, by asking participating organisations to make a public commitment to at least one new activity or initiative to ensure sustainable changes are made.

The guest speakers will suggest six possible commitments at the Digital Greenhouse event, including provisions for training in awareness and sign language, completing a site access audit, and formalising 'quiet' operational hours that are suitable for customers with sensory issues.
Speakers will include Karen Blanchford on behalf of the group 'We All Matter, Eh?' and Disability Officer Gill Evans. There will also be representatives from the Co-Operative Society, Access for All, and the ESS Equality Team.
The event begins at 08:45 and all local businesses or organisations are invited to attend.
