Prow: Why I've resigned

Home Affairs has been done a "great injustice" by Policy & Resources' decision to release a governance report "before we had chance meet and discuss the final draft", according to the Committee's outgoing Vice-President.

Deputy Rob Prow has lifted the lid on his reasons for resigning from the Committee on Friday, ahead of the release today of the report.

"My resignation has been brought about by the conduct of the Policy and Resources Committee and their commissioning and public release through the media of a governance review of Home Affairs, prior to the Committee for Home Affairs being able to meet and discuss the final draft for factual accuracies and disclosure issues, following legal and data protection advice received by the Committee.

"It is with great regret that I believe I have no option but to resign. I feel this is the only effective way I can defend my integrity and the integrity and record of the Committee for Home Affairs.

"I completely respect that other Committee members may wish to fight what I perceive as a great injustice done to the Committee, whilst remaining on the Committee and to continue with the vital work the Committee does, especially in a very uncertain Brexit environment, where the Bailiwicks interests, especially security, trade in goods and border enforcement must be protected."

Deputy Prow said he fully supported the rest of the Home Affairs Committee.

"For the avoidance of any doubt my resignation cannot be construed as implying any criticism whatsoever on the President of the Committee or of any of its members. In fact the contrary is true and all the Committee has my fullest support and great respect. The Committee’s strength is that it is made up from people with very different but strong backgrounds and I have very much enjoyed working with every one of them.

"I thank most sincerely all the staff on the ground, who undertake work under the Committee’s remit as they are our most precious resource. I also thank all those Senior Officers who have engaged with the Committee in the difficult environment which generally prevails at this time. I also thank all States Deputies who have supported both me and the Committee and for the partnership work right across the States, undertaken in a very busy term for this States."
