The electoral roll for the 2016 election had just over 30,000 people on it.

Already, there is close to 23,000 people registered to vote this year. Of those, some 5,400 have requested to vote by post rather than in person at a polling station.

Anyone can opt for a postal vote, either to be sent to their registered address or to an alternative address if they are going to be off-island.

David Mullins, Lead Election Officer says: “There are many advantages to voting by post. It means you can fill in your ballot paper from your own armchair and not worry about any of the time pressures of visiting a polling station. It makes the election more accessible for everyone, essentially bringing the democratic process into your living room.”

Registered voters can opt for a postal vote via the website election2020.gg or by filling in a postal vote application form available from parish offices, Sir Charles Frossard House, the Guille-Alles Library or from the Election 2020 Office.

The Electoral Roll will stay open until 30 April. Until then, all eligible residents are being urged to sign up online or via the household registration form sent to all homes in December last year.

To be eligible to vote you must be 16-years-old by 17 June 2020. You must also have been "ordinarily resident in Guernsey on the date of application to be registered (on the Electoral Roll) and for at least two years immediately preceding that date, or at any time for a period of at least five years.”
