The area at the bottom of the Prince Albert Statue has been left damaged after a Guernsey Police car collided with it in an accident during the early hours of Thursday morning.
A Bailiwick Law Enforcement spokesman said: “While responding to assist other officers, a police response car collided with the railings surrounding the Prince Albert Statue.
"It was the only vehicle involved and thankfully there were no injuries. We are investigating how this happened.”
A picture of the police car, which has been extensively shared on social media, shows the vehicle with its doors and boot open and headlights on, as officers stand alongside it, apparently assessing the situation.
Pictured: The damage to the area around the statue will need repairing.
The damage to the foot of the statue appears to include damaged brick work and railings, with at least four of the metal bollards knocked down.
