Pan-island safeguarding chair to be appointed

The States of Guernsey are working with the Government of Jersey to appoint a new pan-island chair for the Safeguarding Partnership Board.

The new recruit will work across Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney to strengthen safeguarding policies and procedures protecting children and vulnerable adults from harm.

The announcement of the pan-island role comes as Jersey's independent chair of the board, Glenys Johnston reaches the end of her six year term.

The island's Chief Minister Senator John Le Fondre said: "We are very grateful for the work Glenys has done during her six year term in the office. She was instrumental in establishing Jersey's Adults Safeguarding Board and has overseen significant improvements in the way that agencies work together to help keep children and adults safe. Her legacy sets out a solid foundation for the future.

"We also welcome the new development of a pan-island chair. This appointment will help us to share learning and good practice across. both islands which in the longer term will help to build mutually beneficial links between our two governments."
