Overseas Aid inviting islanders to donate to VaccinAid campaign

Wednesday 16 June 2021

The Overseas Aid & Development Commission is championing a national campaign to ‘Give the World a Shot’ by asking people in Guernsey to donate.

UNICEF UK and Crowdfunder’s VaccinAid are pushing for the biggest vaccine drive in history, with the aim of supplying Covid-19 vaccines to third world countries.

It follows the OA&DC donating £85,000 to UNICEF’s vaccination appeal for under-privileged areas that cannot afford to purchase vaccines.

OA&DC’s donation last month helped deliver approximately 65,000 doses, equating to around one from every person in Guernsey.

We’re now being asked to support global vaccination further, by donating to VaccinAid, a campaign supported by UNICEF. The charity has been able to offset costs for two billion vaccines so far.

“I’m really pleased to be able to present Islanders with this excellent and really simple way of making their own donations to VaccinAid,” said the President of the OA&DC, Deputy Chris Blin.

“Supporting the distribution of vaccines world-wide through UNICEF is not just about doing our bit for the global community, it’s a key part of the wider fight against COVID-19," said Deputy Blin.

“If you can, please take some time to have a look on the new fundraising page and consider making a donation,” he said.
