In just one week's time one of the most celebrated modern composers will visit Guernsey for a one-off performance of songs from his most famous work.

There are still tickets available to see Claude Schonberg - composer of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon amongst others - take to the stage with musical theatre professionals at St James.

Mr Schönberg devised the songs for the long running musical stage productions as well as the Oscar winning film from 2012. 

Joshua Black from Take a Left Productions called the composer a "legend" and said he was so pleased in the run up to the performance next Saturday, 29 June. 

"Not only will renowned interviewer Edward Seckerson (BBC Radio 3) be joining him, but also that the incredibly talented West End performers Christine Allado and Daniel Koek will be performing some of M Schönberg's wonderful songs.

"Les Misérables is obviously very special to Guernsey given that Victor Hugo's original novel was written here, and because of that M Schönberg has agreed to repeat the event here. This is particularly exciting given that he has only done it twice before (at Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sydmonton Festival and London's Bridge Theatre) and this is currently the only date anywhere in the world. 

"Most generously, M Schönberg is not only donating his fee for this event to The Victor Hugo in Guernsey Society, but he has also gladly accepted an invitation from the Grammar School to run a masterclass with A-Level music students the day before the main event. This will be a unique opportunity for local students to work with a world-class composer and students from all over the island have been given the opportunity to attend.

"It is a real thrill to be able to offer this opportunity to local students and hopefully inspires them to reach for the stars. 

"If you've ever seen any of M Schönberg's terrific shows, Saturday 29 June at St James is your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show your appreciation to the man himself, who has been so generous throughout the planning of this event. I look forward to seeing St James packed to the rafters for what I'm sure will be a very special evening," he said.
