Oatlands Lane vinery plans near end date

A controversial planning application to replace some former vinery sites with industrial units could be approved within weeks, as the end of the consultation period draws near.

The application for a change of use and redevelopment of the site on Oatlands Lane, St Sampson's, drew attention last year when neighbours put up signs outlining their own opposition.

The initial planning application was asking for a change of use of 11 associated horticultural buildings and a glasshouse to enable it to be used as General Storage/Distribution land instead. This would include the "storage/sorting of recyclable materials" if planning permission is granted. The application has been amended slightly to include alterations to access and landscaping.

Because of the current road layout, alterations to access to the site would be necessary. That is one aspect which has upset neighbours.

Last year, other homeowners in the area said the lane wouldn't cope with any increase in traffic and they put up signs saying the development would do "nothing" for the area. Most of the signs they put up then are still up now.

The applicants, Mr and Mrs Slattery have employed Lovell Ozanne & Partners Ltd as the agents handling the application. 

The planning application was first submitted in April 2017. The initial consultation process was due to end on Tuesday 8 May, 2018, but that was extended. 

Any formal opposition to the plans now have to be lodged by 18 February when the consultation period on the planning application is now due to close. A decision is expected to be made soon after.
