North Beach facility adapted to increase Covid testing capacity

Saturday 30 January 2021

The States is increasing its Covid-19 testing capacity by using the facilities at the East Arm of North Beach for people able to swab themselves.

The testing facility usually tests vehicle drivers and passengers coming into the island on the boat, but will now be used for community testing.

We know that Public Health is currently dealing with a backlog of about 1,000 people a day and is able to test just over 1,000 people daily at the hospital drive through.

People waiting on a test may be given a booking at the East Arm from now on. It will only be given to people who are able to self-administer a swab so won’t be available to all.

The facility will also be making use of the Travel Tracker app. You won’t need to do anything before arriving for your test except have a tablet or smart phone ready. You will be led through the process by staff on arrival.
