Nominations encouraged for Lt-Governors Cadets

Sunday 11 April 2021

A call has been made for the Bailiwick's "abundance of talented youngsters" to come forward to become the Lt-Governors new Cadets.

The Cadets are specially chosen to support the Lieutenant-Governor at a variety of functions throughout the year and an application process is held annually to find up to four new recruits.

The young people chosen will be between the ages of 15 to 18, and will be required to help out with Royal visits, Liberation Day, the Queen’s Birthday reception and other work at Government House.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all of my Cadets,” said the Lieutenant-Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder. “They make a valuable contribution to the work we do at Government House.”

The application process has been supported by the Youth Commission this year, an independent local charity who support children in the island in various situations.

“We have an abundance of talented young people in the Bailiwick and would encourage people to nominate,” said Senior Engagement and Participation Worker, Tracy Spearing.

“We are looking for young people who show an appetite for leadership or who make a positive contribution to their community.

“Last year we had the first nominations from community groups on top of those from uniformed organisations, we are encouraging the whole community to consider nominating inspiring young people they know."

The deadline for applications is 23 April. Young people and their families can contact Ms Spearing directly on 226099 for an application form.
