No Red Arrows at 2019 Air Display, but other date tbc

The Red Arrows will not be able to appear at Guernsey's 2019's Air Display, as the RAF Acrobatic Team embarks on its first tour of the USA in more than 25 years.

But the organisers of the Air Display have already begun to set up an alternate date for the public favourites to appear - with Thursday 6 June earmarked for a display over St Peter Port.

That date is the 75th Anniversary of Operation Overlord - the D-Day landings - and is also the most suitable date for the Red Arrows to come to the island. In case that date does not work out, the team have also agreed they would organise a different weekday in June or July to fly over.

Barry Neal, the Guernsey Air Display Director and Organiser, said: "While it is always very disappointing when the much admired, respected and loved Red Arrows are not available to display, we will be exercising every endeavour to ensure that the 2019 Guernsey Air Display builds on the strong success of the 2018 Air Display.

"Plans are already well under way and we will be researching and exploring all opportunities for high calibre display teams for the 2019 Guernsey Air Display.”

The Red Arrows display in North America will run from August until September. Meanwhile, Guernsey's Air Display on Thursday 12 September will be the 52nd remembering the Battle of Britain.

The annual display is intended to commemorate the lives and legacy of all those RAF airmen, airwomen and aircrew who served their country with pride over the past 100+ years, to celebrate the invaluable work that RAFA does for all ex and current serving personnel who need support and assistance, and to inspire people across Guernsey to continue to support the annual Guernsey Air Display.

Details of the 2019 Guernsey Air Display will be released as they are confirmed.
