New roles will not cost taxpayer

Saturday 19 February 2022

The Office of the Director of Civil Aviation is currently recruiting to five roles, some of which are newly-created posts, but the States say they will all be filled at no additional cost to the taxpayer.

Applicants are invited for the roles of Deputy Director of Civil Aviation, Head of Flight Operations, Head of Safety and Rulemaking, Head of Airworthiness and for a post in Aviation Security Regulation.

The Director of Civil Aviation - held by one person across both Guernsey and Jersey - has responsibility for ensuring the safety of civil aviation in the Channel Islands and their airspace.

This includes regulation of aerodrome, air traffic and air transport services as well as licensing aerodrome and air traffic controllers.

“The posts currently being recruited to are a mix of new roles and replacements to existing roles,” said the States.

“There will be no additional cost to the taxpayer as a result of these appointments.

"Any additional costs are funded through revenue generated by the Guernsey Aircraft Registry.

"The roles, between them, are needed both to meet regulatory standards for civil aviation and to support the operation of the Registry.”
