New stop-smoking initiative launched

Sunday 08 December 2019

Pharmacies are teaming up with Quitline Guernsey's Stop Smoking Service to launch a new initiative to push nicotine replacement therapy.

Anyone wanting to quit the habit will now be able to make an appointment at a pharmacy to access free support and free nicotine replacement therapy alongside information about all stop smoking medications.

The new initiative is in addition to the ongoing service the Quitline core team provides from the Princess Elizabeth Hospital and its outreach clinics. The core team already offer drop-in clinics where no appointment is needed, one-to-one support or appointments for groups of friends, family or work colleagues.

These can be either at the hospital or in mutually agreeable locations, including the Kindred Centre on Les Genats Estate, meeting rooms at Rue Clouet & Sir John Leale Avenue or in the workplace, and in some instances home visits can be arranged.

Quitline Coordinator, Andrea Tostevin, said: “The pharmacy service is an appointment only service, appointments can already be booked at Boots on the Bridge by popping in to the store or by telephoning them on 01481 244928. Boots in town will be offering the service within the next few weeks & it is hoped that two of the Pharmacy Locale stores will also commence the service from January 2020. We are very pleased that smoking cessation services will now be even more widely available and look forward to working with our pharmacy colleagues.”

For further information on any of the existing or new Quitline services or advice on stopping smoking please contact Quitline on 01481 233170 or visit the Quitline Stop Smoking Service facebook page.
