New partnership to aid inclusivity

Sunday 09 October 2022

A Learning Disability Partnership Board is being created for the Bailiwick of Guernsey, to bring together people who can benefit from the new framework being drawn up under the Disability and Inclusion Strategy.

The Board will provide strategic oversight of the development and implementation of the Learning Disability Framework which forms a key part of the D&I strategy.

Its purpose will be to create a forum bringing together people who have a learning disability, carers, and key organisations, both statutory and 3rd sector.

The group will also be expected to identify new and emerging issues that people who have learning disability face and jointly plan initiatives which can address these.

To enhance the work of the Board, Adult Community Services want to hear from people interested in being part of the Learning Disability Partnership Board.

Will Jones, Manager – Community Learning Disability and Autism Team said it will benefit many people and its work will be vitally important.

"The setting up of this new Board and the development and implementation of the Learning Disability Framework is an exciting step forward for the Bailiwick.

"I am delighted that the Board will have co-chairs – one of whom will have a learning disability – so that the Board can benefit from lived experience."

An information session is being held at the KGV on Thursday 13 October from 16:30 to discuss the proposals in more detail.

Anyone who is interested in joining the Learning Disability Partnership Board or who would like more information should contact Will Jones on 222000 or will.jones@gov.gg
