Children requiring hospital treatment will be able to take their pick of colourful and themed gowns thanks to a donation from the Investec Community Donations Committee.

The gowns are specifically created for hospital use and feature designs including superheroes, unicorns, dinosaurs and rainbows.

Frossard Ward Paediatric Clinic Lead, Carolyn Le Cocq, said the gowns would make hospital stays for children less daunting.

“It’s wonderful to know that the people at Investec are thinking about children and how being in hospital must make them feel; it can be a very scary experience for them.

“The children are going to absolutely love the designs and being able to pick their own will hopefully take away some of the scary elements.”

The previous gowns used for children were not patterned and the pyjamas available were all blue: “The designs are fantastic and I’m certain that they will add some fun to what is often a very difficult experience for children,” continued Ms Le Cocq.

“The gowns also meet all our need in terms of infection control and access for IVs, chest ports and heart monitors.”

The Investec committee donated 85 gowns from the US-based Brave Gowns company.

Investec Banking Operations Officer and committee member Amy Le Prevost said she came up with the idea after seeing the gowns on TV.

“I thought it was a lovely idea so I looked into whether gowns could be shipped to Guernsey before suggesting it to the rest of the committee and they all loved the idea,” she said.

“The desire to make a meaningful contribution to the community we live in is at the heart of Investec’s values. The Investec Community Donations Committee was set up to do just that, with the intention to live in society, and not off it.

“The whole committee felt very passionately that we would love to be able to donate a variety of designs and sizes to the Frossard Ward. We are hoping that they will bring an element of fun to what can be a very difficult time and put a smile on these brave children’s faces."

Ms Le Prevost continued: “We are thrilled that we have been able to make this donation and are excited to see the difference they make to the young people using them.”

The Investec Community Donations Committee is funded through contributions from Investec Bank (Channel Islands) Limited, Investec Wealth & Investment (Channel Islands) Limited and Investec Asset Finance (Channel Islands) Limited as well as annual donations from staff members.
