New electric hire bikes expected next year

Friday 14 October 2022

A Channel Island firm which provides a range of electric vehicles for hire through an app will be expanding and overhauling some of its assets in 2023.

Shared mobility firm EVie has committed to replace its current fleet of hire bikes and improve its mobile app which will allow users to book vehicles from one single account.

The existing fleet will be recycled as they have reached the end of their working life. The new bikes, pictured above, will be lighter and more powerful, according to EVie.

Currently, users need to download a separate app from the company’s own to hire a bicycle. Electric cars and vans are available in Jersey, but not in Guernsey.

EVie also hope to entrench partnership with the States of Guernsey and other firms and hospitality providers through its existing corporate programme, which already has several pan-island clients.

Chief Executive Jamie Kelly says the scheme helps firms to reduce carbon emissions and assists staff by lowering transport costs and parking and congestion worries.

Newly appointed Director, Barrie Duerden said increasing demand for vehicles has demanding expansion from the firm.

Gavin Breeze, the firm’s founder, welcomed Mr Duerden to the Board and described plans for next year: “We are delighted to welcome Barrie to the Board to help develop the business. Next spring we will be bringing in brand new bikes that are lighter and more powerful.

This will be backed by a brand new app that makes hiring even more straightforward for electric bikes, cars and vans.
