New apprenticeships offered in Guernsey

Thursday 14 March 2019

Three new apprenticeships are to be offered at the College of Further Education as the overall scheme continues to evolve, now it's reached 70 years old.

From September, the Guernsey Apprenticeship will include Adult Care, Early Years and Retail Management, which have all been chosen as a direct response to industry needs and training requirements.

The College team says it has been in discussion with representatives from these sectors which have all agreed the course framework, content and scope of the apprenticeships, which will be launched to employers on Monday 25 March 2019.

The Guernsey Apprenticeship (formerly known as The Guernsey Apprenticeship Scheme) is celebrating its 70th year this year, and it claims to have 'continuously adapted to industry needs since its inception.'

Under the current scheme there are approximately 500 employers currently registered on the programme which attracts around 70 enrolments each year, but the new subjects are promised to offer students a "broader range of study options within a flexible learning environment".

Louise Misselke, College Principal (pictured above) said:

“The Guernsey Apprenticeship has contributed significantly to Guernsey’s economic success over many years. We are delighted to be extending it to encompass these three new key local sectors and look forward to working with employers to achievetheir and our students’ future success.”

The launch event, on Monday 25 March, is open to any employers operating in the Adult Care, Early Years or Retail sectors who want to learn more about the programme. They will have the opportunity to meet subject lecturers, ask questions and meet others in their industry between 18:00 and 19:30.
