Monday 01 August 2022

Guernsey’s Coastguard received multiple calls relating to a red flare sighting in the Grand Havre area in the early hours of this morning, but a subsequent search found no signs of distress.

At around 01:00 today the Coastguard was alerted to the flare, they subsequently deployed the St. Peter Port all weather lifeboat, Spirit of Guernsey, the Inshore lifeboat, Margaret Milligan, and a Channel Island Air Search crew to search the area.

Conditions were noted as being “fair” with “good visibility”, but the crews were unable to find a person or vessel in distress after hours of searching.

The search was called off just after 03:00, with the lifeboats returning to station at 03:30 and the Air Search team returning just before 04:00.
