A new orchestra is being formed to "fill the gap" in Guernsey’s classical music scene.
The Orchestra People aims to provide more local musicians with the opportunity to play the music they love to Guernsey audiences.
The founding committee, comprised of five local musicians, has a wide-ranging experience of the local music scene, from pub gigs to local orchestra concerts, and are using this experience to create what they say will be an "open, welcoming and approachable community orchestra."
Chair Kurt Carré said the orchestra will enable musicians to perform more music from films, television and pop songs.
"Our hope is to provide a welcoming experience for all musicians and open up the orchestra experience."

Mr Carré said the idea came about following the success of the Guernsey Celebrates Orchestra in September 2020, which raised over £900 for Les Bourgs Hospice and the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
Any musicians from secondary school age and upwards wishing to join the orchestra may do so by e-mailing theorchestrapeople@gmail.com.
Whilst there is no minimum standard required, members will be expected to be capable of playing at a minimum of a grade 5 standard. However, other applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The Orchestra People is hosting a fundraiser quiz night at the Guernsey Yacht Club at 18:30 on Friday 9 July ahead of a planned début concert in October. Teams of four can e-mail to book a place.
