Members of public invited to join committees

Saturday 31 October 2020

Multiple States committees are looking for members of the community to work alongside deputies as non-voting members.

Most committees can elect non-voting members to participate fully in their work, and ESS, HSC and ESC are on the search for theirs.

ESS President Deputy Peter Roffey hopes the new members will provide “external perspectives and additional expertise” to assist his committee.

“There are no specific qualifications for the role, and we’d encourage applications from people from all walks of life,” he said. “The key requirement is for them to be passionate about our mandate, and have experience that adds value."

All three committees are looking for two members of the public to join them in their work to fulfil their mandates.

HSC President Deputy Al Brouard said the experience and fresh perspectives of non-voting members will be "invaluable".

"We would want our non-voting member to be fully immersed in the work of the committee," he said. "We are a small team, and it will be great to find that right skill set to be able to work with us, yet provide rigor and challenge, and be supportive and progressive as we take Health & Social Care forward."

Candidates for the committee roles should have a keen interest in their mandates, but presidents have stressed that there are no qualifications needed for the roles. However, ESC is looking for someone  with experience in governance or representing employee groups.

Anyone interested in becoming a non-voting member of ESS is asked to contact Committee Secretary Malcolm Nutley, either by phone on 732581 or via email at malcolm.nutley@gov.gg. For HSC, interested parties are asked to contact Nikejshia Moon on 725241 or via email on nikejshia.moon2@gov.gg. And for ESC, candidates can contact Esther Ingrouille on Esther.ingrouille@gov.gg.
