Maya Le Tissier has been named as one of the top 10 teenage women footballers in the world.

Goal.com's NXGN 2021 counts down the top football talents born on or after 1 January 2002.

Maya, 18, plays for Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women's Super League and is lauded by the website's global network of journalists as one of the best players in the English top division following a breakthrough campaign.

"Defenders do not often get the credit they deserve but Maya Le Tissier is turning plenty of heads for her performances with Brighton," Maya's entry states.

"The 18-year-old broke into the first team last season as a centre-back and has started every game in the Women’s Super League this campaign, showing her versatility by regularly excelling as a right-back.

"She has not only been one of the Seagulls’ best players this term, but one of the league’s stand-out performers."

Maya told her club's website that it was an honour to feature in 7th place in the list, which is judged by hundreds of football journalists spanning 44 key footballing nations.

“To be considered among the top ten young players in the world is a tremendous honour, and I would like to thank Goal for nominating me," she said.

“I am really enjoying my football at the moment. We've put together a run of four straight wins and hopefully this can continue for the rest of the season.

“Personally, I am really enjoying working with Hope Powell and the coaching team at Brighton and this award will inspire me to keep on developing and improving every aspect of my game.”
