Maya to make her mark on Murrati

Saturday 17 March 2018

Maya Le Tissier has been named as one of the team members for this year's under 16 Muratti against Jersey.

She is the first young sportswoman to make it onto the team, and will play in the squad with 15 boys this afternoon.

"We’ve all been training hard throughout this season and have all been working towards selection to go to Jersey," Maya said.

"Lots of people have been talking about me and how I’m going to be making history by being the first girl, to be honest I don’t really mind whether I’m making history or not, but it’s nice to be setting the platform and showing other girls that everyone can do what they want to do, but you just need to work hard and stay focused.

"There’s been a lot of questions about me and making history but all of the boys going to Jersey should be getting the same credit as I am. We’ve all been working hard together as a team, and without them throughout my years of playing I wouldn’t be the player I am now without them."

Previously Maya has played for Guernsey and England, captaining the England under 16s against Denmark in February. Year round she is a member of St Martins FC.

The full Guernsey squad is: Maya Le Tissier, Jake Lowe, Seb Sheppard, Oscar Leadbeater, Callum Scott, Sam Ashplant, Harry De Mouilpied, Bradley O’Regan, Lucas Ozanne, Tiago Rodrigues, Charlie Driscoll, Niall Hainsworth, Joe Welsh, Callum Le Lacheur,  Curtis Davey, Frazer Maginnis.

Bradley O'Regan is team captain.
