Marking 74 years of Liberation

With cavalcades, stalls, parades, live music and all sorts of entertainment, there was something for everyone yesterday.

Commemorations began in the traditional manner with a parade followed by a church service in Town.

From there were all sorts of festivities, both inside and outside of St Peter Port. For families and children, there was a family hub on the Crown Pier featuring inflatables and creation stations, while organisers also took advantage of the Castle Emplacement which was used to host  market, charity and craft stalls as well as more activities including Water Peddlerz and Aquativity Balls.

The Guernsey Old Car Club celebrated its own 50th anniversary as it led a cavalcade along the west coast before its procession to the Town seafront.

There were dozens of old cars in the cavalcade, with many people dressed in 1940s attire, waving flags and throwing out sweets (Pic by Perly Jeffreys).

And for music lovers there was something to listen to at venues across the island. The celebrations came to a close with a fireworks display at the Castle, which proved as popular as ever.
