Wednesday 04 April 2018

Guernsey Police have named the man who died after entering the sea on Sunday night, as Wanfred Callanan.

The 37-year-old was an Irish national who had lived in the island for some time.

Police said his next of kin have been informed and a post mortem is set to be carried out in due course.

"Investigations are ongoing, but we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident at this time," the police statement said.

Mr Callanan died after entering the sea at St George's Espanade on Easter Sunday late at night. He was rescued by the lifeboat and taken to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. He died while at the PEH.

Floral tributes have been placed at the wall along the sea front near where Mr Callanan is believed to have entered the sea. Tributes have also been paid on social media sites.
