Man jailed for ordering steroids and MDMA through the post

Thursday 06 May 2021

A 28-year-old has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in Les Nicolles for ordering MDMA and various steroids through the post.

Border Agency Officers picked a package out at Envoy House for further inspection on 18 July 2020 that was addressed to Jordan Clay in Alderney.

Officers found numerous steroids and class C drugs in the parcel, including 20 tablets of mestanolone, 103 tablets of etizolam and 20ml of drostanolone.

A few days later, on the 22 July, a second package addressed to Clay was picked up. It contained 13.97g of MDMA. Clay was subsequently arrested in Alderney on 30 July.

After his arrest, Clay’s address in Alderney was searched, two 10ml bottles of testosterone and 26 tablets of stanazolol were discovered, all class C drugs. He was further arrested that day for possession.

Altogether Clay faced nine charges: one to six for the importation of MDMA and class C steroids, and charges seven to nine for possession. The most serious charge in the indictment was for the importation of MDMA, with a sentencing starting point - before mitigation - of eight years in prison under the Richards guidelines.

During the property search, officers seized two phones, one of which held evidence of Clay ordering illicit drugs to his address.

The street value of the MDMA was estimated to be between £1,100 and £1,300, and a rough estimate was given of £340 for the combined steroids.

Clay pleaded guilty to all the charges.

Advocate Mark Priaulx said Clay was embarrassed by his actions, having moved to Alderney with the intent of settling into the community. He gave Judge Catherine Fooks several “exceptional references”, in addition to a social inquiry report indicating a low likelihood of reoffending.

The Jurats and Judge Fooks retired for more than hour before sentencing Clay.

Clay was sentenced to four-and-a-half years imprisonment for the importation of MDMA. He was sentenced to nine months each for counts two to five, 12 months for count six and one month each for counts seven to nine, all to run concurrently with the MDMA sentence.

“When this is done the Alderney community will welcome you back,” said Judge Fooks. “We hope this is the last time we see you.”
