A 37-year-old man has been fined £10,000 for breaching self-isolation requirements on two occasions, both on the same day he returned to the island.
Eriks Giedris was fined £5,000 for each of the breaches on 30 December as a direct alternative to a total of 500 days in prison.
The same day that he returned to the island on a boat from France, Giedris went to a supermarket to see someone he knew, and then the pub.
When Guernsey Border Agency officers turned up at his property the next day, he admitted the breaches, which have proved costly.
“We take these investigations incredibly seriously, as the vast majority of the community would expect us to," said the GBA.
"It’s not acceptable, we have to all be responsible and follow the rules to protect everyone.
“Rest assured we will continue to investigate claims of breaches and report people for the court to deal with if breaches are found.”
The Court was told that Giedris' tests for Covid-19 came back negative.
Having initially told the Court that he could only pay £250 on the day, Giedris was ordered to secure another £3,000 by 16:30 yesterday in order to be released from custody. He will then have to pay off his fine £250 per week thereafter.
