Man Club reminding islanders of available mental health support

Sunday 08 May 2022

The Man Club Guernsey has recently split from Guernsey Mind and become a separate entity. It’s taking the opportunity to remind men in Guernsey of its services before Mental Health Awareness Week begins.

The group was launched in 2018 to support men in Guernsey facing mental health issues. It’s open to men of any age and from any background.

"Men tend to hide behind a mask to avoid judgement, trying to look smart and capable but we offer an environment where they can drop the mask for a while,” said group facilitator, Paul Armstrong.

“This group just offers confidential support without judgement. We create a safe and friendly space where people make the effort to really listen. If you have things on your mind, and you don't have a way to talk to anyone, then I encourage you to come along.”

Mr Armstrong wants to raise awareness of the group before Mental Health Awareness Week begins. The national campaign, highlighting the importance of looking after mental health, begins tomorrow and runs until the 15 May.

He continued: “You can come and hear men talking honestly about what their lives really feel like and have the opportunity to talk about anything on your own mind.

“We don't judge each other. We don't compete with each other. We just talk honestly, for once."

Man Club meet every other Monday with the next meeting on 16 May. You can find more information about the group ONLINE.
