Loud Tie Day returns

Thursday 26 January 2023

It's time to don your loudest, brightest, most colourful tie or scarf - to help Bowel Cancer Guernsey raise awareness of the symptoms of the disease and of the services it can offer to help sufferers.

On Friday 27 January, the charity is encouraging people to wear the bright neck-wear and to make a donation to help fund their services.

Bowel Cancer Guernsey was initially formed in 2002 as the Guernsey Bowel Cancer Awareness Charity. It rebranded in 2013 to reflect the greater awareness of bowel cancer across the Bailiwick and now the charity works to continue sharing positive messages about bowel health and awareness.

By actively promoting the knowledge and understanding of bowel cancer within the Bailiwick, the charity hopes to help people realise that bowel cancer is preventable and treatable if caught early enough.

Anne Brouard, spokesperson for Bowel Cancer Guernsey, said: "We are thrilled to host Loud Tie Day again this year.

"This event brings the whole community together for a bit of fun, but it also helps to raise awareness for a disease that can affect anyone. The impact of Loud Tie Day can save lives. It’s an event which spreads the message about understanding the risks, symptoms and early treatment of bowel cancer, and we are grateful to all who get involved."

This year, the Loud Tie Day fundraising is being supported by various organisations including Two Degrees North.

Director Chris Griffiths said: "The impact that Bowel Cancer Guernsey has on the community is vital and at Two Degrees North, we are proud to support in any way that we can. We know from personal experience how much bowel cancer can affect the lives of those with the illness as well as the family and friends who are touched by it, and we hope that our contributions help to raise awareness."

The charity hopes to continue to reach as many people as possible and encourages workplaces, schools and the whole community to help make an impact this year.

Mrs Brouard said: "Have a good rummage in your wardrobe or browse the charity shops to find a colourful tie or scarf and get involved!"
