Thursday 16 August 2018

The overall pass rate this year for the Bailiwick's A-Level results was 99.8%, compared to 97.6% in England, the States have announced.

The percentage of entries at A* to A was 27.9% - above England’s 26.4%.

The Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre achieved its best A Level results since 2009, with some 90% of grades at A* to C. More than a quarter of the grades received were at A* - A, and two-thirds at A* to B. Initial Value Added – a national method of measuring how much pupils have progressed – scores show a continued improvement on previous years, placing the school in top 5% of sixth forms nationally.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma was completed by 26 students, who achieved an average total score of 31.1, compared to the average worldwide point score of 29.9. The highest individual points were 40 out of 45 diploma points, equivalent to more than four A* grades at A Level.

Kieran James, Deputy Headteacher and Director of Sixth Form Studies at the Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre, said: “We are delighted with this year’s excellent results, which are testament to our students’ and teachers’ commitment and dedication, as well as to the culture of independent learning that has continued to develop in the Sixth Form.”

Guernsey College of Further Education had a pass rate of 97% - its highest since 2013. Principle Louise Misselke, said it was an outstanding achievement for students and staff.

“I am delighted to see the culmination of everyone’s work in such brilliant results. We know the amount of effort and dedication that both students and staff put in towards achieving these qualifications and are so grateful for all the support students have received from their families, friends, and employers, which has helped everyone to achieve these outstanding results.”

Deputy Richard Graham, Vice President of Education, Sport & Culture, said: “I would like to congratulate all of those who achieved an outstanding set of results this year. This excellent outcome is due to the students’ hard work but we should also recognise the support and dedication of their teachers, lecturers and support staff who have played such a significant part in the students’ success. All of us in the Bailiwick should be proud of what they have achieved together.”
