Local breweries fundraising for food and medical supplies for Ukraine

Thursday 17 March 2022

Local breweries have joined forces to donate their products to a fundraising event for Ukraine.

The event, which will feature an auction and bake sale, will raise funds for food and medical supplies to support humanitarian aid efforts.

Director of Amigos and Mojitos, Cristovao Santos, is hosting the event in collaboration with the Little Big Brew Co.

“Ever since hearing the news of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, I have been chatting to the hospitality community about how we can raise funds,” he said.

“I’m really excited for the event. Everyone has come together really quickly to do something to help. This is the most important time to work together and everyone is feeling that.”

Local breweries including Randalls, Rocquettes and Second Meridian Brew Co. have donated alcohol.

“All the alcohol being sold has been donated and 100% of the funds raised through alcohol sales, through a mystery box auction and a bake sale on the night will be donated to Ukraine,” said Mr Santos.

Little Big Hotel Group Development Director Simon De La Rue said he was happy to help Mr Santos’ efforts.

“The people of Guernsey are always great supporters of fundraising efforts and we hope they will join us at the event,” said Mr De La Rue.

“We all know people within the hospitality industry who have links to or relatives in both Ukraine and Russia. It’s important to remember that this is not Russia’s war, this is Putin’s war, and we should all be working together to contribute to the relief efforts as much as possible.”

Second Meridian Brew Co. co-founder Sam Hamperl said he wanted to help as soon as he heard about the event.

“I thought it was a great idea and it’s amazing to see everyone pulling together to find different ways to help Ukraine. We didn’t think twice about donating some beer to help the cause,” he said.

“We are happily donating a couple of kegs of Turning Tides, our IPA, and a keg of Night Shift, our dark lager.”

Funds raised at the event will be donated to World Central Kitchen and the Help Ukraine Centre.

The event will take place on Monday 21 March from 16:00 until 22:00 at the Little Big Brew Co. bar.
